Well, I also passed the stocks through a screen -- they should have increased their dividends every year for at least 10 consecutive years. Therefore, MAT and a few others fell out of consideration. A few others that I'll buy for the portfolio in the future are JNJ, HSY, PEP.

John Our kids must be exactly the same age I bot the identical portfolio. I did make money on ntdoy though, my daughter told me to sell after I mentioned she had doubled her money. She said, "I think its to HIGH daddy sell it NOW!" she also pegged msft at 115. Me I finally sold HAS (under ten) after a 3 year hold, gtis (if its still around) I rode down to penny stock status and Mat Ill dump the rest on Nov 15th. From now on my kids can pick there own stocks ;^D
