I saw it on the evening news a few times back in '98.

What channel ?? I didn't see it though.

Aren't the newspapers controlled by Beijing? I don't think they represent free thought anymore.

There are only 3 well-known newspapers that have tied with Beijing. Other than that, other newspapers can talk what they want. If the gov control all the newspapers, you won't see HK people reading newspaper anymore.

Yes, of course. I only noted it as something that doesn't happen often in a country's history

You mean in Chinese history ? If so, you're wrong sir.
There were quite a few powerful ladies controlled the whole dynasties in the history of China. They ruled, they killed, and they flirted...

talk about manipulation!

Ha Ha! Since major players do not show any respect to the social aspect in Hong Kong, why should HKSAR show respect to the market ?? By the way, HKSAR just stablized (or invested if you will) the market. They didn't daytrade...

Of course they did a better job of defending their markets than Thailand did back in '97, and they did a much better job than Taiwan did the last few months

HKSAR and Taiwan are rich in money reserved. Both gov buy stocks too. Thai are poor folks. That's why the market collapsed, because no one showed any respect to the poor.

manipulation only delays the outcome of problems in the economy.

That's why major players around the world can discriminate against you by economical means. They don't show respect whatsoever to Asian people. They rob you and will continue to rob you thru the market.

One side note: I try to find out why certain people were hated and killed in Europe during WWII. Someone were blaming them of making so much money from Europeans thru stock markets. You know they were good at that, especially in Britain, where lots of investors had lost so much money in scams for hundred of years. People were searching for scapegoats, which were rich folks.
