News will blow TA away every time. Ive heard it said the good news lasts about 2 to 3 days as far as having a positive affect on a stock.

Most all stocks experience a run up prior to earnings and stock splits. These runs are anticipated and are played by fundamental traders. Normally after earnings are released or a stock splits you see a tech stock sell off because there is no more good news or up coming event to drive the momentum. Sellers start taking profits a day or so before the "event".

Yahoo is a very good recent example of this.
