Rich, from what I've read TX was not positioned to have much new oil growth come online as quick as competitors like Mobil Exxon, Shell and Chevron. So more investors have tended to pick those companies and they have tended to fare somewhat better. While the $64 price may not seem like a lot that plus high oil prices reduces the downside risk somewhat. Also since Chevron's projected growth rate is higher, Texaco's stock price will tend to follow.
