Since NOK has been one year product cycles, wouldn't you presume that NOK was refreshing its product line-up at roughly the same time last year. If so, then '99 ASP's would reflect a likewise stale product line-up in the process of being replaced by what is now stale, so that the ASP figure mightn't seem all that weird.

"He comes through as pretty irratible during the CC's"

(warning, you have entered the hype and spin zone)

From a finnish perspective, maybe yes, this time, just
a little, and with some specific guys, but not in general.

However, when a "finn" deals with "real, important" stuff, he
gets very "serious" to show that this is "it", and
absolutely avoids lots of fantastic, great,etc.. This is
often misunderstod, spun as beeing irritated, troubled, etc,
even uninterested or lost.

This is of course stereotypes and traditional jokes, but
sometimes there is a grain of truth in it.

Another thing is to take a slightly "fatherly" role to
show that one also is prepared to take a fatherly
responsibilty for something.

One fatherly thing is "try to listen to what I say instead
of making up your own version of what you would have
liked me to say" when the kids are whipping up some
really fun, frenetic fight, time to go to bed.

So it did not surprise me that Ollila maybe took a
stronger, tighter than usual tone as there has been a
destructive war going on in the market, rumours, spinning
old stuff, etc, obviously from some specific sources.
(has there been any new spin to anything lately??)

To the degree that he stood there one week earlier to
put an end to specifically that BS. (maybe partly
based on fear, but alo greed, in hope of making a
quick buck)

And, as he repeated a couple of times, there is actually
nothing new to say for him, everything goes according to
earlier "guidance" (maybe implying that any real or
perceived problems to be explained or spun have other
sources than Nokia)

Ilmarinen, inspired by "the naked ape and his body language"
and "men are from Planet Earth and women too". (Mars
or Venus or whatever the original claimed)

P.S. However, one smart conclusion I found was that this was
maybe the most valuable brand building campaign yet for
Nokia, a campaign one cannot buy for money.
