RESEARCH ALERT-Goldman, Merrill raise Microsoft estimates

NEW YORK, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch on
Thursday said their analysts had raised fiscal 2001 earnings estimates for
Microsoft Corp. (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) after the company reported
better-than-expected quarterly results.

Goldman Sachs analyst Rich Sherlund raised his 2001 earnings estimate
to $1.91 a share from $1.88, while Merrill Lynch analyst Chris Shilakes
raised his forecast to $1.90 a share from $1.86.

Microsoft's fiscal first-quarter revenues of $5.8 billion were ahead of Goldman's $5.65 billion
estimate, and its earnings of 46 cents a share beat Goldman's 41 cents forecast.

Congrats on a better than expected quarter. My question though (and I haven't really looked at the report yet), what's changed from last quarter? Isn't it basically the same result as the prior quarter, and we're still talking nobody home in the organic growth department?? -JCJ
