STOCKHOLM, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Sweden's Ericsson, the world's leading mobile networks maker and the third largest maker of cellphones, said it expected 420 million phones sold globally this year, rising to 525-575 million next year.

Ericsson's forecasts are fairly in line with rivals. Nokia of Finland, the world's top mobile phone maker, expects over 400 million units sold this year and about 550 million cellular phones next year.

U.S. Motorola Inc. (MOT), the world's second largest cellular phone maker, downgraded last week its estimates to 525-575 million global sales for 2001 from a previously more aggressive estimate of 600-650 million.
