<<All that said, two factors bother me more than any others should the Repubs gain control of the White House and retain control of the Congress: (1) The lack of what might be described as GOP altruism, i.e., "We've made our money; screw everyone else who isn't as fortunate"; (2) the vindictiveness of many Republican leaders in Congress, i.e., Armey, Delay, Lott. >

The Democrats gained control of both the Presidency and the Legislature in 1993. They governed then as if the less than majority which placed them in complete control were their only constituency. The result was the loss of not only the House and Senate but many state legislatures and governorships as well. Should the Republicans make the same mistake, I suspect they would suffer the same fate.

flapjack, I think your concern concern about the charity of successful people is misplaced. It is my experience, close up, that those who are successful will in majority be very thoughtful and generous to meaningful charities and causes. Also, if you are concerned about a more thoughtful and less wasteful government you are right. If you are OK with a government that will be mature, concerned, eliminate waste while building the positive things then you will be very happy with the Republican administration.
