I think the source, if I recall correctly, was the Center for Responsive Politics.

What was intriguing was Birnbaum's statement that Bush's torrent of small donations came after his victory in the first debate.

When the history is written it will be said that the debates did one very important thing - the debates made the US public dislike AlGore the Junior.
