it depends on the type of food outfit obviously. the more basic, the less it will suffer. the chicken stuff seems perfect. tobacco may be a good place to hide in too. however, they have already had a nice run.

one needs to keep in mind though that in the 29-32 and 73-74 bears nearly everything was decimated, including the defensive stuff. presumably the need to raise cash over-ruled all other considerations. in the seventies generally commodity related stuff (oil,gold, copper, etc.) tended to do very well in some years of course.

in the early 30's, only gold stocks did well.
