JC - Intel screwed up on RAMBUS by trying to RAMBUS it down the industry's throat. They might have succeeded even with the higher prices except it didn't work and was not available.

The OEM vendors make at least as good a profit selling the OS as they do selling the hardware. Your argument doesn't make sense as long as customers are willing to pay the price.

I don't think the industry will go back to the 1960s software model. Freeware is a neat fad for techies but an industry needs the economic justification to build and support solid products, and free just does not have it.
