Indeed, unless they weren't alone! And then we are back to another Universe of Universe's, each a Universe of Universe's, and so on ad infinitum. So far, the very fact that people talk of a Theory of Everything sounds like what people thought 150 years ago when they were prepared to know the mind of God. True enough, they were discovering some really cool, mind altering stuff, but the hubris of humanity is that it keeps running into this Eureka! effect.
