Flap, two years ago I lost a very dear and very respected friend who was also a union goon (Business Agent, Plumbers and Pipe(Steam?)fitters). We spent many hours hollering at each other while guzzling CC. I came to partially understand his concerns. He, I think, came to understand that the Democrats were the worst enemy of the working man. Of course, in public, he had to toe the union line.

He was one skookum dude. I'd like to think that my influence helped him induce some market oriented reforms in his piss-ant local that resulted in a revival of a moribund group. His results attracted attention at the national level of the AFL-CIO. He'd barely begun explaining to the honchos what he'd done to exponentially increase union membership when the louse went and woke up dead.

Union people might do well to concentrate more on wondering what policies will make their wages buy more stuff than trying to coerce more dough out of their neighbors.
