Nonsense! There will be Dimension PC using the P4 probably from the beginning of the P4 launch. Also, Intel has said unequivocally that this will be their fastest launch ever.
The P3 will be moved into the mid and value range markets quickly during the first half of the year.

Moreover, Tate has said that the P4 launch is important for RMBS in the coming quarter. This is opposite your interpretation.

:)

Gene, I agree with your post, except I don't really see what hope there is for Rambus in the DRDRAM sense on the P3 front. I guess Intel could cut prices on the 840 chipset and/or produce a cheap 840 mobo; the 840 seems to work pretty well. Then, there's this 870 stuff that Tenchusatsu is working on that might be adaptable. There's also the DRDRAM channel on the Almador, which might actually allow the whole thing to be reconfigured as an RDRAM main memory chipset, though that seems improbable.

If you assume DDR is going to fail as PC memory, DRDRAM might come back, but that's a pretty big assumption. You also got to assume that Barrett's comments don't mean anything. If you put odds on all these assumptions, Rambus looks best on the legal front.

Cheers, Dan.

Gene,
Intel has said that the P4 will go after the mainstream from the get go. This is not just a workstation PC. The lines that the P4 will go into include mainstream PCs (the high end mainstream PCs at the beginning and moving down the line fast). That market is a lot more than just the workstation market. But I agree with you that the P3 will be the main unit producer in 2001. However, with a 133MHz FSB I can see why Intel would want to push the 400MHz FSB P4 deeper and faster into the P3 line.
