That makes sense Jay. Perfect sense. One problem though, translating sense into a good stock purchase has been kinda hard lately!

But surely the spending will continue and it would be a natural progression for it to become more concentrated into the "best" providers. 12 months ago there was any number of new gadgets for dsl equipment, seemingly hundreds of new gadgets of the month, hundreds of new product releases. Very possible that all that has been sorted through and the "lesser" equipment providers weeded out. Or bought out.

So I can see the continued spending being concentrated among fewer companies. Until the next big technology leap, which is many years away probably. Meanwhile dsl stil has a long way to expand.

Remember when we sat in PAIR and marveled at the valuations given to some other dsl related companies? Well it may be time to revisit them oneday. CMTN, COVD, NPNT, RTHM, etc all on sale, all priced for nothing but failure.

Hi Jay - you make good senes. I ve been arguing in different threads that the telcos cannot afford to slow down cap spending. There is a lot of inefficiency. The deep pockets will want to be grab the best real estate to prevent the young turks to move in.

That said, you are absolutely right about selectivity. Look at the recent DSL swoon. If the company bets on the wrong technologies, or lingers too long in a space, like PAIR, whose history you and I know so well, it will go the way of the do-do bird! That is why I ve not ejected ADCT from my portfolio, b/c dilutive she may be in acquiring technologies, she is doing the right thing to insure her future survival. Sure, not every of her recent acquisitions will pay off handsomely, but I think she is doing the right things in moving in the right space like optical and net generation switching. If indeed the recent sell off is acquiree unloading or FUD in telco spending, I can live with that --- this sort of events can be helped easily with a roll of tums and a bottle of tequila <VBG> But if she is stuck in dead end street, then adieu

best, Bosco
