Its amazing how many people I told in Feb then April then in July I said last chance to get off again. Nope they were justtelling me how CSCO was a steal and JDSU would double its sales for the next 10 years so I should buy and hold. I am telling people again, be carefull and sell any rally. They are again telling me that the bottom is in and the races begin. Frankly i am sending my money to a Market neutral hedge fund and giving up. until we bottom there aint much to buy, and I am not to good at shorting.

<Does anyone have a sense for how the slide in the Nasdaq will affect the holiday shopping season? From speaking with some friends and acquaintances it appears that the "poverty effect" is already at work.>

Unfortunately until it becomes obvious that things have gotten bad, we will probably only have anecdotal evidence. FWIW, I am definitely seeing the poverty effect at work here, several aquaintances cancelling home and car plans... those people are upper end as well although my car dealer [salesman, not dealership] who I've been talking to once a month is really moaning about being way under water on his stocks.... that is really sad.. the ones who don't just scale back, you know it's more important to him.
