I agree in the short term it would have been nice to spin it off to the current shareholders ala 3com/palm. However this doesn't increase the working capital needed for expansion.

Also maintaining control was imperative as it maintains the supply line of components.

If it was fully or even 51% spun off ALA would have lost control of the optronics division which someone else would likely want

This is why the corning NT deal fell through both wanted control
of the new entity

I may be mistaken but I think NT is planning the same type of partial spinoff

These IPOs don't do as well because the market believes they are constrained in there marketing because the parent company doesn't want the sub. to sell to competitors, and the competitors don't want to but from them.

NN affiliates ran into this problem quite often

O.T.to Z.O. or anyone who may know. does anyone follow (CY) cypress semi's. Picked some up this week and can't figure out why the market values them so lowly. There main business is supplying NT,ALA,MOT,&CSCo with semi's and other components
