Goutama, if orders were on the thin side at Intel, why would Otellini have stressed current fabs on line and new ones coming on in this week's conference call: six in full production at 0.18 now, another coming on line this quarter and still another in Q1-2000? Seems like he'd come up looking foolish if they were to fall short. Also, Bryant flat out said he wanted to be on the conservative side this time with forward looking comments. Add that to Intel's usually (except in the Q2 CC) conservative guidance, and I personally feel good about Q4.

As for the advertising, Christmas is coming, makin' a list, checkin' it twice...

Goutama: Maybe AMD will be the one to pre-announce this quarter.

I sure hope they'll do.:)

<What's up with the resurgence of Intel advertising campaing? I see it as a last ditch effort to continue to sell PIIIs with the hefty premiums without having to chop the PIII prices. It's not going to work this time around.>

You may be right.

Look at #3 mass producer of PC for retail, e-machines.
In previous models
e4me.com
they had the top line - e-Monster - with
P-III-600, 550, and 500, and below the
bunch of Celerons and K6.

In "current" models
e4me.com
the e-Monster only model is AMD Athlon 700Mhz,
and then e-Towers with Celerons. No P-IIIs
any more.

I wonder as why it is so ...
It looks like a retail shopper does not want to
pay more than $60 for a 700MHz CPU, so the trend
in ASP is clear, for both companies.
