JC - sounds like you are a good candidate for an iPaq. No fan, no disk, instant on, and you can even read the screen without dentist glasses. And unlike the Osborne, you can put it in your pocket.

Sony makes a "monitor" that you wear something like a pair of sunglasses. It simulates a wide screen TV. I've tried some on, and they're pretty nifty. With some refinement they'd make a great computer screen.
