Nokia sees 3G mobile phones in H1 2002

Finnish Nokia , the world's largest mobile phone maker, said on Thursday it expected high-speed Internet third-generation handsets on the market in volumes in the first half of 2002.

``In terms of Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) handsets...test phones will be out by end of next year, but in volumes in the first half of 2002,'' Chief Executive Jorma Ollila said in a conference call.

WCDMA mobile phone technology is the main third-generation (3G) standard which will allow customers to receive and send high speed data transmissions via their mobile phones, and aims to offer moving images, video-on-demand and always-on Internet connections.
