I heard something very interesting on NPR about that. They were talking about how immediate information- like real time quotes, and as it happens news reporting, was forcing people (or at least making people think they were forced) to make ever quicker decisions. The question was, are our brains developed to make decisions involving large quantities of data that fast? Or have we evolved to make better decisions when given time for reflection.

Unfortunately I was listening to this in the car as I raced to pick up a kid from school, so I never did hear the conclusion.
