Hey Elmer,

It's actually unclear the 2nd amendment has anything to do with individual gun ownership rights... as opposed to being a states rights vs. federal gov sorta thing. (states allowed to have well-armed militias)

But your point about more advanced weapons makes clear the folly of unlimited individual gun rights, even if that were the intention of the 2nd amendment:

Why not allow folks to carry tactical nuclear weapons?

Those are arms, right? If one answers "no", there isn't a 'principle' anymore, but rather an argument over where to draw the line.

The gun-control camp wants the line drawn lower. The gun-crowd has largely been duped into thinking there's some great principle at stake, even though 95% of them actually WOULD NOT support an unlimited right to bear arms, if they thought about the ramifications for a second or two.

The other 5% simply like blowing things up with big guns.
