Why not apply the tax revenues directly towards addressing the health and environmental costs of oil, coal, nukes AND to encourage a movement away from these sources?

Of course there's a dozen reasons why not, starting with the entrenched interests of transnational corporations. But sooner or later people and the governments we elect need start thinking "outside the box" and come up with innovative solutions to the challenges facing our society.

Nobody strives for utopian ideals anymore. That's no longer fashionable. Cynicism is in. We all just want to get our share of the riches, before the whole sh*t house comes down.
