RE:"If Intel hypes a 1.7 - 2.0 Ghz P4, what happens to the P3?
It's only running at 1.0 Ghz. Does the P3 become a low-end
processor?"

Eventually yes, mid to low end...as in X-box.
If it's taken to .13u that means it will be around for a while...a long while. Apparently Intel has no choice but to deal with the big gap in Mhz between P-IIIs and P4s. Out of one side of their mouth they will have to say "Mhz matters" and when they try and sell P3s it will have to be price/performance out of the other side.
I still say they nurse the P4 along for the next 6 months plus, tweaking until they are clear enough of Rambus.
Dell will sell them...but it will be like the P3-i820s...if something goes wrong we'll find out just how many they really sold..very few.
