We will need to have intellectual specialists akin to the "Jacks of all trades" of the labour realm: Specialists that become fireflies of thought, that can carry enough information to salvage the whole regardless of which part is threatened with extinction. This is happening now, Solon. There really is a dumbing down of America. I have an experiment I submitted 30 days ago. It was rejected by some of the people on my signature loop because "It was too wordy and difficult to understand". Because of written procedures, I can't start the physical experiment until the document has been signed. There has never been any challenge to the science, or experimental details. The corker is that the QA Engineer speaks English as a second language and was correcting my sentence structures, changing or removing nuance and taking exceptions to words whose definitions she wasn't clear on. Yikes. Talk about hubris. I can't imaging working in China and correcting the Chinese of an engineer there. What arrogance. Plus, they were wrong! Oh well.
