But When MSFT has a choice to take a tough stand to defend a business vector or cave for external (non-business) reasons, I have NEVER seen them fail to take the business line. I have lots of anecdotal evidence going back a LONG ways. Whatever pressure you imagine being brought to bear, you can bet that there is equal and opposite pressure being prepared on the other side. Also those boys in Redmond play a long game and don't mind losing a few battles to develop a strategic position to win the war.>> RudeDog: "Defend a business vector??" This sounds like we are on some intergalactic starship fueled by MONEY. I don't believe even the term "business" can seriously be defended anymore. It's like trying to defend slavery. BUSINESS is a hallow, macho, valueless term. And the forces which are fueling this next phase of the Internet are being guided by only ONE vector: SERVICE. Who/what/where/how and why are we all helping and serving RudeDog? And if we aren't "helping and serving" what the heck are we doing?? Taking and abusing? Blowing others away? Hiding, spinning, dodging, weaving and withholding? This mantra about the value of "competition" pitting right against wrong in open war seems to be fading. For what are we "competing for" anyway? Answer: earning the right to help and serve others. I simply believe the smoke, fire, fear and friction behind these business vectors which companies are trying to defend is very hallow. Gates should stop denying he crossed the line and screwed up in key areas while fighting this war of domination which led to this impass. If he tries to hold on and fight he will lose the ball of energy necessary to take the .NET vision to the marketplace. The best thing that could happen to Microsoft would be for them to stop denying, admit to some of the key points which led to this problem, split up the company and get on with these new directions, ideas and energies. They can't have their cake and eat it, too. As for the Orem land rumor, I just hope Gates did not cave to some quid pro quo. Peace. GO!!
