The payroll taxes (other than income taxes) don't go on forever, rather you reach a certain limit and then you stop paying those taxes. Thus for those lucky enough to make the big bucks the non-income tax payroll taxes become insignificant. I think the income limits are $46,327 for CA state disability insurance and $76,200 for Social Security, and you are not taxed for any income beyond these limits.
