The next generation Internet will put an end to the desktop as anything other than a data display and input device. If you want to try an interesting experiment, interface a Pentium data bus via a fiber-optic link to a gutted desktop box containing only a video card and keyboard controller. With the right ASIC's there is no need for a Pentium on the desktop motherboard, but you can slap the Intel Inside sticker on the case just to comfort the hasbeens who cling to the "old ways". Tough to load .NET onto a box that has only video ram.
