Sagent, Donaldson Lufkin Sued By Investor for Securities Fraud

San Francisco, Oct. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Sagent Technology Inc. and the investment banking firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette are being sued by a shareholder for allegedly misrepresenting the software maker's prospects in order to boost its stock price.

Sagent shares fell 60 percent in April after the maker of information-management software said it had missed analyst estimates for first quarter revenue and earnings. The shares have dropped from a 52-week high of $44.88 in March to $3.19 today.

The suit, by shareholder Robert Casey II, claims Donaldson, an underwriter of Sagent's 1999 initial public offering, published misleading research reports that created a false impression about the company's success and competitive advantages.

Neither New York-based Donaldson nor analyst Joseph Farley, who prepared the reports at issue, could immediately be reached for comment.

``We will deny all the allegations vigorously,'' said Sagent spokesman David Eliff. ``We don't think any of them have any relevance whatsoever. We consider it a frivolous lawsuit.''

The suit, filed today in a federal court in San Francisco, seeks unspecified damages. It was filed by the law firm Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach of San Diego.

Shares of Mountain View, California-based Sagent rose 38 cents to $3.19 on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Shares of Donaldson fell 6 cents to $89.50 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Don Juan,

The overall intermediate trend is still extremely bullish. Looking at the chart, though - looks like 'dark cloud cover' confirmed. Short term seems to indicate a reversal.

"Mama Bear says HAND is overvalued."

I don't think I've made a comment concerning HAND one way or the other. I've only recently started to think about looking at it.

Regards,

Barb
