Missouri Democrats are worried that the sudden death of Gov. Mel Carnahan, who was running for Senate, could tip a whole ballot full of close elections toward the Republicans.

So they are hatching plans to keep on campaigning for Carnahan almost as if the Monday plane crash had never happened. Some party leaders are urging the governor's widow, Jean, to carry on the fight.
