PROLIFE--I'm sorry to hear that your friend's son had a difficult experience, resulting in death, from experiencing a culture of drugs. But I can tell you for a fact that your friend's son did not die as a result of physical effects from smoking marijuana. Were it true that he did, his case would be included in medical literature. It's not! And I challenge anyone to show me a reference in medical literature where there has been a death due to the physical effects of smoking marijuana.

In Holland marijuana is legal in "coffeehouses" which are all over the place. Takes a little getting used to but what you see is that few Dutch kids have any interest in it. Since it's so easy to get it's no big thing and it's not exciting or rebellious. Those who really need a puff go in and slack around listening to tunes. They never hurt anyone. Most of the customers are tourists coming from countries where it is illegal. Yes, it's kind of distasteful to some but amazingly Dutch youth marijuana and hard drug use use is actually less that in the US. Also, the government taxes it and makes enough money to pay for hard drug treatment. Ditto with controlled prostitution. They take the excitement and rebellion out of it by making it legal and also tax it. Therefore it's of little interest to the locals. Funny how that works isn't it? Who would have thought? Drugs are not going away and in Texas drug use is all in all categories amongst youths. In this country even hemp rope is illegal. Even some good kids get caught and put away for years. That's the law in some places. Growing marijuana on your land can get your property confiscated by the government. Even one plant! Third offence and you could go down for a long time. Longterm marijuana use may make you fuzzy headed, less ambitious and hurt your lungs but it is less physically harmful than alcohol, cigarettes and far less harmful than cocaine. Ironically much of our country's crime and prison and drug problems stem from the very fact that marijuana and prostitution are illegal. When marijuana is legal few go onto hard drugs. Therefore less crime. Less AIDS. Fewer OD's. When prostitution is legal it's less interesting and there is also less crime. Making drugs and prostitution illegal attracts criminal minds to those businesses, which brings violence and destroys lives. What happened in Holland will never happen in the US (except for hos in Nevada) because no politician could risk sticking his neck out for changes. But one has to wonder why the War On Drugs continues to fail despite billions spent on it, why jails are over-flowing and why even in a tough state like Texas teen drug use and crime are up despite being down nationally.
