Move the timing register off the DIMM. New chipsets and DDR chips will be required, so to move the industry over, it will take 2 to 3 years. It may be that off chip timing registers are not practical, in which case timing would be fixed and you'd have to get correctly speced DIMMs for your computer.

Whatever has to be done, will be done. When Intel, AMD, VIA, Hyundai, and Micron are all working together, modifying a specification is not hard.

It's way, way, too late for Rambus to have patented "any chip memory" or "any data transfer" - and such a conclusion seems to have been arrived at by the Rambus longs.
