Jacob, thanks for the thanks. If there is any interest: I've obtained VIX since 1984 and put/call for 2000 and have charted these indicators vs NAZ. I can do SOX or anything else.

VIX IS on Yahoo, but the chart unfortunately has a false spike swamping the data when you do a compare.
5 years is OK but not scaled right.

Shorter time spans show the spike. But my data is OK.

Jacob, if I needed to time the bottom exactly, then the bookings figures would not help. But if you look at Gottfried's chart again, it is clear that picking the bottom exactly is simply not necessary.
