Interpretation of statistics is indeed interesting but the numbers must be fundamentally accurate before we can begin.

From what I understand, Boswell does not track Dell. Also, the numbers you cite for Dell and HWP jive exactly with the IDC numbers but the Compaq numbers do not. Is there a reason for this? According to IDC, Compaq's unit growth overseas was negative where they grew by 420k units in the U.S. but only 366k overall in the ww market. Where exactly did 487k units ww for CPQ come from?

The Boswell report which is more of an industry tip sheet and not of the same caliber, cost or reach as IDC and DataGuess. They track retail PC sales only. They can't accurately derive Dell's unit shipments using this method. Do you have a report that shows they track direct vendors like Dell and Gateway. If so, what method do they use?
