My taxes include:
Federal
17% on the first $29590
26% on the next $29590
29% over and above $59180

1.5% Federal Surtax
5% Temporary (ya right) debt reduction surtax for incomes greater than $59180

Provincial Tax
44% of total federal tax paid
8% Alberta Surtax (on the 44% total) for incomes greater than $59180
.5% Flat rate tax based on taxable income.

7% Goods and Services tax (GST- National tax) for me, ~$4000 a year.

Property tax works out to about 2400/yr.

Thank God Alberta has no provincial sales tax.

The fall election will change these numbers (for the better). How much depends on who wins.... Come on flat tax!

Regards
Jay

PS. I've also had a couple of parking tickets, but I didn't realize I was being taxed so I didn't include them.

Our tax code is a full employment act for accountants and congressmen.

This is gallows humor. Ha ha. It's the kind of thinking that misdirects attention from the issue. You pay 1/3 of your income in income taxes. That's socialism and that's the issue. You don't march on Washington, you don't engage in a Boston Tea Party, because you think this taxation is ok. You can live adequately well and still pay. The truth is that you don't march because you think the British are doing good. They must be doing good since you are paying them so much. And after all you do have your own pet that is worthy of half your money. You're getting a deal! Money solves all problems (gallows humor).
