Taxes are lower than in most other places in Europe and the US except for tax havens like Luxemburg, Monaco etc. Most taxes are raised at the state and municipal level and tax rates can vary quite considerably. What I like most about the Swiss tax system is that there's no capital gains tax and since there's a tax treaty with the US you're also exempt from US capital gains tax and withholding as a resident there.

As for languages, I've always been quite good at picking up foreign languages. I also had to live through 7 years of Latin in school which helps a lot with romanic languages. The Swiss don't really speak German among themselves but Swiss German which is quite different from standard German, kind of like the difference between Dutch and German.
