gene, re: "I suspect the minimum implementation for RDRAM will be 256MB, (two 128MB RIMM's and two C-RIMM's). This is double the minimum I see for SDR/DDR. (128MB using 4 chip's). I think this needs to be factored into the price comparisons."

gene, re: "First off, I think you're smart enough that you don't really buy into this "Pricewatch" pricing game."

Actually, I'm trying hard to muffle the continuous drivel about IP and litigation on this board. And I'm struck by the inability of this thread (both long and short) to appreciate the beauty of the bus' execution. No doubt, the IP issues have to be monitored closely; a failure to license (or failure in court) will crash the stock price, as a victory will send it to the stratosphere. But what is being missed here is what these guys are doing with the business model. Next years' financial performance is already in the bag (Ok, I'm stretching a little on this one), and they are building franchises in other areas which will put the PC bz where it ought to be, only a part of their success, not all of their success (and your pals' constant BS then becomes no more than a wart on the rear end of our collective memories).

g2g, three women are screaming at me,

Gene,
With the 256/288Mbit parts, we will see another dramatic drop in RDRAM prices. You will be able to make 128MB RIMMs with 4 chips and 64MB RIMMs with just 2 (32MB with just one). So RDRAM again will allow much better granularity and cost structure even in the dual channel P4.

64MB RIMMs are down to $80. 128MB RIMMs down to $150. 256MB RIMMs down to $355. I expect another big price drop once the 256/288Mbit parts hit, which should be here before the end of the year around the P4 launch day.

Blake, re:drip, drip, drip.
First off, I think you're smart enough that you don't really buy into this "Pricewatch" pricing game.
As for RIMM's becoming competitive with DIMM's, during the CC Tate said the 256/288Mb RDRAM was the key to bringing the price of RDRAM to <20% adder to SDRAM. He predicted this would occur in 2H'01.
