Good point. Unfortunately, the simple debate ploy that you picked up on, is lost to most folks -- and it is a technique that effectively confuses the masses. Where and when I went to high school, we were taught in civics class to recognize logical distortion and the basic propaganda techniques. Our assignments included newspaper presentation and content review. Guess all that has been dropped from the curriculum; I wonder why. :)
