Have to admit, optical's not my bag...

I'm still trying to figure out electrical switching. But I do know that some companies have got the granularity down to OC-1 (52 Mbps), which is much better than a full OC-48 (2.5 Gbps) wavelength. The question for me is how much of it will be better economics (port/density/price points) and how much will be breakthroughs in the laws of physics.

He mentions a few startups like Brightlink, Astral Point and Cyras that he is funding - says Brightlink has already got Sycamore beat on price/density.

The thing is, how many startups can this industry support? Seems like there is a new optical somethingorother everyday.

Is this optical startup mania getting out of hand, or is this just the beginning?
