number of computer users online 1998 survey

nua.ie

"Jul 01 1998: Research company Matrix Information and Directory Services Inc estimate the number of Internet users worldwide reached 102 million by January 1998 - continuing a trend that has seen the number of Internet users double in each of the last six years.

Should this trend continue the number of online users is expected to reach 377 million by January 2000 and 707 million by January 2001."

Gilder estimated a billion. Pretty close to this estimate. See if I can find more recent data.

I meant to say

Today the total world ELECTRICAL energy demand has been estimated at around 13 trillion KWHR's = 13(10^12) KWHR. eia.doe.gov. Therefore computer use would require (0.864/13)= 6.6% of the worlds projected ELECTRICAL energy demand in 2000.
