Sounds cheaper than psychotherapy and probably more effective. Thanks for the discussion, I'm off to enjoy possibly the last gasp of summer here on the left coast. Next week I'll run some numbers of the short/call approach, and see what the ^VIX on HAND has to hit before Black-Scholes will give me a break. That's the only difference with puts: I get to set the volatility on one side (the short). I bet I end up going short/stop though. After all, if I feel strongly enough to sell a stock (with my investment approach) then I should follow it up with a short position. P.
