"I think the Bond Holders are a little too optimistic, I'd say that he odds of AMZN failing is up to closer to 80 or 90 % and even if it doesnt fail the equity will be wiped clean off of the planet.. " Could be that the debtholders agree with your assessment that there is an 80% chance of chapter 11, and recognize that the principal will not be repaid, but have concluded that, as the true "owners" of AMZN, it is worth paying 50 cents on the dollar for the debt.
