Dee Jay:

You've mixed up a few facts. At least one is the "read my lips". This is where Bush compromised with the Democratic controlled house and senate to both raise taxes and cut some spending. So by doing the right thing the Democrats hammered him @ reelection time. Of course its now know as the Bush tax increase but his original budget did not include a tax increase.

Also the "peace" dividend from the fall of the Berlin wall can be attributed to the defense spending. If you remember Regan increased spending so we could not be held hostage by foreign countires. Maybe your forgetting IRAN. How high would oil be today if the defense was not strong enough for Desert Storm.

Also remember when Regan pushed through his tax cuts and defense spending he was not as successful in his cutting expense initiatives.

Clinton has been a good steward but would we be running a surplus today if the Republicans did not take control of the house and senate. Clinton takes credit but remember it was the Republican victory in 94 that paved the way for the surplus.

Of course the highest tax increase in history, with Gore casting the deciding vote also helped.

Just a few facts. Don't take my word for them check for your self.

Tim

Hey Dee Jay: What good is low inflation when your total tax bite from FED,STATE,LOCAL, SAlES TAXES, USER FEES,PROPERTY TAXES (mine went up 13% this year, aren't I feeling just dandy) and all combined equal more than 50% of income and I ain't no upper cruster.
