Hi Glenn, hope all is well. It is valid insofar as we cannot control events as we might like. And our ability to influence events is clearly going down, and fast. The breakdown in the peace process and the growing divisions in the ME reduces the influence of the US. Israel needs US support. The daily grind of watching teenagers being shot to death while throwing rocks puts pressure on US public opinion and undermines support for Israel. Barak is now hanging by a thread politically and must turn to his more right wing counterparts to stay in power -- a fact that helped to touch off the most recent uprising. It also creates violent outrage which can easily spread to other countries. You may think we can just blow out this candle, but it now threatens to become a bigger fire. I don't want a fire, I am not advocating that this should happen. My role in the conversation is to point out the risks we face and our limited capacity to do anything about it.
