Excellent points Cat. The scenarios are vastly changed and the virtual elimination of the Soviets is a big part of the shift. The formal "embargo" scenario is reduced for the reasons you suggest. This does not however address other forms of "interruption". The Saudis are the swing producers. Iraq has the world's greatest reserves and would have been the largest producer now if they held Kuwait. It is not easy for outsiders to calculate Saudi political realities. We know where Iraq stands. If anything goes wrong in Saudi Arabia, a disruption is very possible. But short of something dramatic, the pressure will increase on Saudis to turn the taps down a little bit. In a market as tight as the one we have today, a little can have a big impact.
