Re: "There are some rumors that AMD is scrambling to create some extra fab space in Dresden. Do you think AMD is anticipating something that you are not?"

Perhaps Austin - MegaFlop 25 - is becoming obsolete for CPUs faster than AMD had planned for.

I wouldn't consider AMD's reputation any better. They've hinted at all kinds of things that they're likely not going to meet, and the company was sued by the shareholders just over a year ago for lying.

Joe, >I would hope you'd look around further than just this thread for opinions on things like P4 clock speed potential. Even Foster DP version is looking good for 2 GHz in the first half at 0.18.

>>Where do you get this stuff? Can you point me to some info suggesting this? (Sharky doesn't count)

Believe me, it's a far better source than this:

Scumbria and I believe that the double pumped stages (now possibly nine up from two before out of 28) will limit its ultimate speed. It will not scale as well as the more balanced Athlon or even PPro, P2, or P3. It may not even get to 2GHz without a shrink to 0.13u.

Do those guys have hardware in a lab, or the design in a workstation along with a simulator and speed analysis programs?
