We have to really help each child to learn. That is what George Bush is proposing.

I'm ok with the first part of that, but I have no confidence that either candidate has any serious education policy, beyond a lot of fine-sounding buzzwords. It's all very well to talk about testing, home rule, and requiring learning, but these things will not, in themselves, accomplish much. Testing will tell us that some schools are lousy, which we already knew, home rule will mean that areas with active, engaged, educated parents will get better schools, which is already the case. How is anyone gong to require learning.

I see nothing of substance in either platform when it comes to education.
