I've never read Kontratieff. I have read Schumpeters Capitalism, Socialism, & Democracy - his main work. He mentions him in passing. Schumpeter connected the business cycle to what he calls "creative destruction" - cycles of innovation in technology. Think he might have connected these ideas to the idea of long economic cycles which it sounds like Kontratieff came up with.

I sort of have a similiar view. But I like to link the economic cylces in with the broader society, culture, and politics. I'm a trained historian - have an MA and was two years in the doctorate program - so that's part of the reason why.

Several years ago ('94?) I remember reading that according to Kondratieff Theory, the Dow would peak at 11,400. At the time I thought 'how curious, I must remember this prediction'---what a coincidence.
