Cummings: I just received my latest monthly newspaper from the international. Lots of good articles, with headlines such as "Upbeat Lieberman Rallies Convention Crowd," "Hooray for Hillary" and "Technology Creating New Ways to Organize and Mobilize." There's a nice election pull-out on "Where the Candidates Stand." I'll list a few examples. Right to Organize: Gore believes organizing is a "fundamental right that should never be blocked, stopped, and never, ever taken away." He personally lobbied for public sector collective bargaining in Maryland and Puerto Rico. Bush touts Texas' Right to Work status. His Department of Economic Development brags about the state's low wages and anti-labor climate. Social Security and Pensions: Gore supports setting aside at least 2/3 of budget surplus to protect Social Security and Medicare; opposes raising the retirement age, cutting benefits or privatizing Social Security, cosponsored the Employee Pension Protection Act. Bush supports partially privatizing Social Security; would consider raising the retirement age for younger Americans. Bush broke campaign promise to Texas teachers by cutting funding for their public pension plan an dproposed raiding the fund to pay for administrative costs. Head Start: Gore increased Head Start funding by 68 percent, increasing enrollment by 200,000 children. Proposed a $600 million increase in funding. Bush supports a tax plan that would cut $2.9 billion in Heard Start funding and deny the program to almost 400,000 children.

Bush Lie No. 1 "Bush is big on telling everyone he's for the schools and the teachers, but he opposed a teacher's pay increase of 3 percent. A state sentor pushed it through over Bush's objections, way over. Yet Bush is out there on the campaign trail telling everybody how he gave the teachers a raise. That's a regular theme with George Bush. It doesn't matter whether he vetoed something or didn't want anything to do with it, he's out there saying, 'This is what I accomplished.'
