Reagan Administration caused the S+L debacle to begin with, then various members of it tried to hush up the bank failures before the next election costing us hundreds of billions more than it had to. Watchdog regulators and examiners were punished and silenced when they tried to sound the alarm to close the S+L's down quick. The S+L's were amongst the biggest contributors to the GOP. Keating himself used congressmen from both parties but that was years after the damage was done.
